May Alumna of the Month –

  1. What year did you graduate from Lackawanna Trail HS?

I graduated in 1986.

  1. Did you attend any schooling after leaving Trail?

I graduated from Keystone College, when it was still Keystone Junior College, in 1988. I then received my bachelor’s degree and teaching certification from Temple University’s Tyler School of Art. I received a Master of Education degree from Chestnut Hill College, and a Master of Fine Art degree from Marywood University.

  1. What are you doing now?

I’ve been teaching art, here at Lackawanna Trail High School, for 24 years now. Before that I was an elementary art teacher at St. Nicholas/St. Mary School in Wilkes Barre, and I did some adjunct teaching at King’s College.

  1. How has a Trail education helped prepare you for where you are now?

I’m proud to be carrying on the traditions of Mr. Genovese, Mr. Srebro, and Mrs. Stuble. Their guidance and support in the art department, and the solid background I got from my other teachers here at Trail, are definitely the reason I have been successful in my adult life. I attained the education I needed to carry on at the college level, and I had the opportunity to develop and pursue my passions, in order to find enjoyment and fulfilment in my teaching career, and as an artist. The teachers and the small-school atmosphere at Trail makes one feel cared about, while still being challenged academically. I felt competent and competitive, heading out into the world, after graduating from Lackawanna Trail.
