Welcome to the Title I webpage for the Lackawanna Trail Elementary Center. Beginning with the 2015-2016 school year, we have transitioned from a Title I Targeted Assistance Program (where students were identified using objective educational criteria) to a Schoolwide Program (where Title I funds are used to upgrade the entire educational program of the school). Our Title I Schoolwide Program Plan, as well as other resources, are included on this page. Please check back regularly for updated information on our Title I program.
2019-2020 Title I Goals
Lackawanna Trail School District
The Lackawanna Trail Elementary Center, and the parents of the students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high standards.
This school-parent compact is in effect during school year 2017-2018.
REQUIRED SCHOOL-PARENT COMPACT PROVISIONS
Members of the school staff understand the importance of the school experience to every student and their role as educators and models. Therefore, they will carry out the following responsibilities to the best of their ability:
- Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables children served under Title I to meet the challenging state academic standards:
- LTEC has highly qualified/appropriately certified teachers in all Title I positions with many years of elementary experience, assuring all students access to quality learning experiences appropriate to their development.
- The Title I staff communicates clear expectations for performance to both students and parents, in a language that family members can understand.
- The Title I staff strive to address the individual needs of each student. Therefore, students meet in small groups or individually with classroom teachers, reading specialists, or special education teachers as per their individual needs and the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) Model/Pride Time Program.
- LTEC follows both the in-class and pull-out models for delivery of instruction.
- All instruction utilizes research-based materials and methods.
- LTEC provides a safe, positive, healthy learning environment for each student.
- Each child is treated with dignity and respect.
- Hold parent-teacher conferences (at least annually in elementary schools) during which this compact will be discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement. Specifically, those conferences will be held:
- An annual meeting is always scheduled. At this meeting the staff discuss in detail all aspects of the Title I program, including the meaning and importance of the school-parent-student compact.
- LTEC’s Parent-Teacher Conference are held during the day and evenings twice a year (Fall and Spring) in order to meet with parents and elaborate on their children’s progress.
- Provide parents with frequent reports on their children’s progress. Specifically, the school will provide reports as follows:
- At least one annual meeting is scheduled where the Title I Schoolwide Program and overall student progress is discussed.
- LTEC’s Parent-Teacher Conference are held during the day and evenings twice a year (Fall and Spring) in order to meet with parents and elaborate on their children’s progress
- Parents/Guardians of students in grades 4-6, can access their child’s grades through the MMS Online Grading System.
- Progress reports are sent home throughout the school year regarding student’s progress, in a language that family members can understand.
- Provide parents reasonable access to staff. Specifically, staff will be available for consultation with parents as follows:
- Open House will be held in August, whereby parents can learn about the Title I Program and meet school staff.
- Title I staff are available before and after scheduled classes for phone calls, conferences, etc. on a daily basis.
- Parental notes and emails are other ways to contact the teachers.
- More formal access can be conducted through the school’s regularly scheduled parent conferences.
- Provide parents opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s class, and to observe classroom activities, as follows:
- Title I staff train parents of primary grade students, especially Kindergarten and First Grade, to be Kid Writing volunteers.
- Parents are also invited to volunteer to help with special projects and programs as they are scheduled.
I will l my child’s learning in the following ways:
- Making sure that my child attends school regularly, is on time, and is prepared to learn.
- Making sure that homework is completed.
- Creating an atmosphere that supports learning by encouraging reading and math activities, and doing such activities at home to continue my child’s classroom learning.
- Knowing which skills my child is learning in math and reading/language arts classes.
- Reading to or with my child for 15/20 minutes each day, five days a week.
- Practicing math facts and problems with my child several times a week.
- Encouraging my child to demonstrate respect for school personnel, classmates, and school property.
- Staying informed about my child’s education and communicating with the school by promptly reading all notices from the school or the school district either received by my child or by mail and responding, as appropriate.
- Attending parent-teacher conferences and communicating frequently with my child’s teacher, through notes and conversations, about my child’s progress.
- Attending, to the extent possible, various district meetings, or other school advisory or policy groups (including the Title I School Improvement Team, if needed).
- Volunteering, to the extent possible, in my child’s classroom.
- Monitoring amount and quality of television my child watches.
- Promoting positive use of my child’s extracurricular time.
I will share the responsibility to improve my academic achievement and achieve the State’s high standards. Specifically, I will:
- Come to school on time and ready to learn.
- Pay attention to my teachers, tutors, and family and ask for help when needed.
- Complete my homework on time in a thorough and legible manner.
- Welcome help from my family on homework and assignments.
- Give to my parents or the adult who is responsible for my welfare all notices and information received by me from my school every day.
- Return any signed homework and notices/papers to school on time.
- Ask my family to read with or to me for at least 15/20 minutes each day, five days a week.
2019-2020 Parent Right-to-Know Letter
Parent Right to Know Information as Required by The Elementary and Secondary Education Assistance (ESEA) [Section 1112(e)(1)(A)] and the Every Student Succeeds Act [Section 1112(e)(1)(A)]
Dear Parent(s)/Legal Guardian(s): Your child attends Lackawanna Trail Elementary Center, which receives Federal Title I funds to assist students in meeting state achievement standards. Throughout the school year, we will be providing you with important information about this law and your child’s education. This letter lets you know about your right to request information about the qualifications of the classroom staff working with your child.
At Lackawanna Trail Elementary Center, we are very proud of our teachers and feel they are ready for the coming school year and are prepared to give your child a high-quality education. As a Title I school, we must meet federal regulations related to teacher qualifications as defined in ESEA. These regulations allow you to learn more about your child’s teachers’ training and credentials. We are happy to provide this information to you. At any time, you may ask:
- Whether the teacher met state qualifications and certification requirements for the grade level and subject he/she is teaching,
- Whether the teacher received an emergency or conditional certificate through which state qualifications were waived, and
- What undergraduate or graduate degrees the teacher holds, including graduate certificates and additional degrees, and major(s) or area(s) of concentration.
You may also ask whether your child receives help from a paraprofessional. If your child receives this assistance, we can provide you with information about the paraprofessional’s qualifications. The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) which was signed into law in December 2015 and reauthorizes the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA) includes additionally right to know requests.
At any time, parents and family members can request:
- Information on policies regarding student participation in assessments and procedures for opting out, and
- Information on required assessments that include
o subject matter tested, o purpose of the test,
o source of the requirement (if applicable),
o amount of time it takes students to complete the test, and
o time and format of disseminating results.
Our staff is committed to helping your child develop the academic knowledge and critical thinking he/she needs to succeed in school and beyond. That commitment includes making sure that all of our teachers and paraprofessionals meet applicable Pennsylvania state requirements.
