    April 2020

Dear Lackawanna Trail Students and Parents,

I hope everyone is doing as well as possible during these challenging times. The COVID-19 Pandemic has pushed everyone in new directions and forced all of us to adapt the way we carry out our basic daily routines. Rest assured, although all Pennsylvania public schools are closed indefinitely, we strive to do the best we can to continue educating our students during the closure. Your teachers are thinking about you, and your principals are planning various scenarios to ensure there will be a Sixth Grade Recognition Program for our oldest elementary students, and a Graduation Ceremony for The Class of 2020.

With input from our dedicated team of administrators, teachers, and the board of education we have completed The Lackawanna Trail Continuity of Education Plan. This plan formalizes and streamlines what our teachers have been doing since the mandatory closure last month by educating our students through non-graded review and enrichment assignments. It goes further and provides additional structure and is designed to help students and parents more efficiently schedule their time while planning daily and weekly schedules. Although the buildings are closed, education continues. I ask everyone to click on the following link so you can review The Lackawanna Trail Continuity of Education Plan. After doing so, please contact your principal if you have any questions.

To assist our families in need we are distributing meals at the high school between 10:30 and 12:30 on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. This is open to all families in The Lackawanna Trail School District. We hope this helps our community by easing the burden of all the other challenges you face on a daily basis.

In order to get through this time of crisis we all must do our part. The Lackawanna Trail Board of Directors, Administration, Faculty, and Staff are committed to following the Federal, State, and Local orders to minimize and mitigate the impact of COVID-19. We encourage everyone to do the same and continue to practice social distancing, frequently wash your hands, and comply with all existing and evolving recommendations from The Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control. This is a strong community built on Lion Pride, and we will get through this together!

    Stay safe,

    Matthew Rakauskas

    Lackawanna Trail Superintendent
